Torment is a very slow game, but I enjoyed what I played so far. One of the brothers joined my party now, so that's cool. The best part of my time with the game was when I was approached by a man who asked me to help save his brother from execution. I freed the prisoner by convincing the crowd to riot! She seems like a backstabber, but at least she's not a delusional zealot. I decided to go with Calistege, from the Order of Truth. My two party members argued and they clearly won't travel together, so I had to choose between them. They are used to raise the chance of success during various situations. These are a depleting resource that must be refilled somehow. The whole game's system is based around a few attributes, Might, Speed and Intelligence. I think there could have been a battle here, but I managed to talk my way out of it by lying skillfully. The icon means the character has something important to tell you but its easy. One of the more interesting aspects of the new Torment game is the way party members are utilised and how this slightly differs from similar titles such as Pillars of Eternity, which lets you play multiple characters. This is because two features in the system almost entirely invalidate any character-building choices you might want to make: Effort, and the possibility to use any party member for almost any skill check. Tides of Numenera, although drawing inspiration from the original, is defiantly looking to reinvigorate it.
